About Samarinda
Samarinda is the capital city of East Kalimantan Province as well as the biggest city. The city lies along the Mahakam River offering the fascinating view at both sunrise and sunset that makes the city more exotic. It is also interesting to explore the local tribes, who live on the banks of the river. There are many attractive tourism destinations in Samarinda such as The Pampang Culture Village, Tanah Merah Waterfall, and Tanjung Isuy. The weather in Samarinda is around 28 - 32°C.
Getting to Samarinda
- Samarinda’s airport, APT Pranoto, currently has only flights to and from some cities, i.e., Surabaya, Berau, and Tanjung Selor. People from other cities can travel to Samarinda via Balikpapan which has several domestic flights and international flights from Jakarta, Bali, and Singapore (www.silkair.com).
- The easiest way to go to Samarinda from Balikpapan is by taxi, directly from the airport to your hotel in Samarinda that will take about 2 – 3 hours depending on the traffic conditions.
- Another option is to go by travel service, Kangaroo Premiere Travel (kangaroo.id). Ticketing booth is available at the arrival gate. The travel will stop you at its terminal in Samarinda. There are many online transportation services in Samarinda to take you from the terminal to the hotel and conference venue.
